WINTER
20 Years of Los Angeles Ballet:
Rubies, Frank Bridge Variations,
World Premiere by Melissa Barak
Balanchine/Manen/Barak | Stravinsky/Britten/Lawrence
The evening includes Balanchine’s jazz-infused delight Rubies—an energetic reprise from LAB’s first season. Hans Van Manen’s Frank Bridge Variations pairs Benjamin Britten’s lush score with an abstract expression of sensuality and, at times, explosive emotion. It is a powerful blend of classicism, spirited wit, and modern intensity. Finally, in a moment charged with anticipation, LAB’s Artistic Director Melissa Barak unveils a world premiere with music by American composer David Lawrence, showcasing the forward-motion that continues to define the company. Performances at The Wallis Annenberg Performing Arts Center

SPRING
Giselle
Perrot, Petipa | Adam
One of the most beloved ballets of the Romantic era, Giselle is a haunting story about a young peasant girl who falls in love, only to be betrayed and driven to madness and death. Tempted in the afterlife by spirits to seek vengeance, Giselle’s enduring love ultimately saves her beloved. A combination of tender romance, dramatic betrayal, and ethereal beauty, Giselle remains a cornerstone of the classical ballet repertoire.
