Catherine Kanner oversees all print, web and promotional materials for Los Angeles Ballet. Her duties include art direction, design, video production, photo retouching/composition, and illustration. Additionally, she designed the sets for LAB’s original production of The Nutcracker which debuted with the company.
Catherine has been a a regular contributor to the Los Angeles Times Opinion section, and her editorial illustrations have been syndicated to 2,000 newspapers in the U.S. and 1,000 worldwide. She has written, illustrated and designed more than 20 books including her own texts (The Book of the Bath, Beauty From a Country Garden), and many books for other authors (Michael Crichton's Timeline, Fun With Ballet, San Francisco Access, Angelina's Ballet Class). She has designed for Dance at the Met at The Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Catherine has won numerous illustration and design awards including the Society of Newspaper Design Award, Print's Regional Design Award, the Louie Award, and Rounce & Coffin Awards for excellence in book design. In 2013 Catherine was inducted in the Album Cover Hall of Fame for her cover for Bob Dylan's Slow Train Coming.
